Zagora
Gateway to Erg Chigaga and the ancient Draa Valley.
Zagora is the gateway to the southern Draa Valley and the famous Timbuktu sign — a reminder that trans-Saharan caravans once set off from here. The town is modest but the surroundings repay slow travel: palm groves, ksour villages, the Jbel Zagora sunset viewpoint, and desert-edge dunes at Tinfou. Travellers short on time often choose Zagora for a 2-day Sahara taste from Marrakech: a stony-reg desert experience rather than great sand seas, best combined with the Draa Valley road.
