A 2-day Sahara tour from Marrakech is essentially the High Atlas crossing plus Aït Ben Haddou and the Draa Valley to the dunes, with one night in a camp. Day one is a long drive with stops; the camel trek and night in the camp happen on day one too; day two is the sunrise ride back and the drive onward.
That makes it intense: two full days in a vehicle with a tight schedule. It is realistic, but you get little time to breathe in the mountains or linger in Ouarzazate.
With three days you keep the same desert core — one night in camp — but you gain time. A realistic 3-day Marrakech–Merzouga itinerary stops overnight somewhere like Aït Ben Haddou or Ouarzazate, splits the drive so day one is not exhausting, and leaves a clearer head for the camp night and the sunrise ride on day three.
If you are combining with the imperial cities, three days is also the length that lines up with a Fes–Merzouga leg, so it slots into a longer loop more cleanly.
